It’s unusual that I get to have a lunch in the city at the moment between the daily commute and working from home but as circumstances would have it I found time to enjoy a little lunch time treat with a friend this week. We went into the city to check out one of the newest eateries in St.Anne Square; 7 Spice.
We had reserved a table in their outside pods because when in Rome and all that and we weren’t disappointed, the pod we sat in was bright, cosy and warm. We were able to people watch and actually see a movement workshop happening outside the MAC theatre. On a side note the restaurants in St.Annes are fabulous for pre-theatre dining!
Down to the food offering; 7 Spice offer a tapas style of dining for their lunchtime menu, were you can choose 4 small plates with 2 portions of rice for just £18.95 and if you want to be greedy and add a few more dishes it’s £4.95 per item. This is reasonable pricing and actually very good value for money in the city centre.
We choose the Chilli Desi Prawns, the Chicken Tikka Masla, the Chicken Mali and the Kora Hi. The smell when they arrived in our pod was immense and we greedily started to fill our plates with large juicy prawns and spiced Chicken.
We may have ordered a couple of cocktails as well after all at lunchtime they have a 2 for £10 deal and as I wasn’t retuning to the office why not (and the French martini came in the biggest glass I’ve seen)! We couldn’t decide on our favourite dish as every mouthful had something surprising, the chilli prawns had a fabulous kick, the masla comforting and the Kora-hi something altogether new and fascinating but we did decide the portion says was perfect for lunchtime at these were great dishes to eat and discuss life.
After the fantastic tapas and whilst still enjoying our cocktails we decided we needed something sweet to finish off the experience and wondered if their would be a sweet menu. Although the dessert menu was short it was sweet and the desserts were very satisfying if you are a sugar addict like myself. We went for the creme brúlèe and the cheesecake again perfectly presented, creamy and sweet.
Overall verdicts would return and like to explore the menu more through the tapas at lunchtime or would return for the full dinner time menu as the chef and waiters has the food and service to a tea!
