I can’t remember when they first appeared maybe I was born with them or maybe I was just a very expressive child, but I feel like I have had rows of deep set expression lines on my forehead from the dawn of the age of time. However with the wonders of makeup and technology I’ve been able to filter these out and boost my self esteem but in real life they are still there and the older I get the deeper they become, so what could I do?
If you’ve read my earlier beauty blogs you will know I have tried numerous facials and even micro needling. I approached the subject of injectables and Botox before but had been advised by one practitioner that it wouldn’t be possible, after I’d taken an allergic reaction to a bee sting, so when I booked in for a consultation with The Clinic on the Lisburn Road Belfast, I assumed they would say the same thing.
How wrong was I? Just over two weeks ago I meet the warm, friendly and very welcoming Jackie Donnelly plus the very knowledgeable and highly trained Deborah Elwiss-McNally. Both have over 30 years experience in the beauty industry and can work out a personal skincare treatment plan tailored to every individuals needs at The Clinic,Lisburn Road.

I had a 1-1 consultation with Jackie and explained my worries and how I would love to be able to reduce my deep set lines but that I wanted it to be natural. She escorted me into meet Deborah a specialist advanced aesthetic nurse practitioner, as soon as I walked into the room Deborah put me at ease, explained what she could do and the side effects if any that may occur, she put my mind at rest about my allergic reaction and she explained in lay mans terms how it would work. Deborah uses Botox injections to relax the muscles in your face (The active ingredient in Botox freezes the facial muscles to keep them from contracting but it’s not a permanent effect) to smooth out lines and wrinkles and how it would last for at least 3-4 months, maybe longer for younger skins. She said I was at a good age to start (35) and we discussed if it would be painful, Deborah’s answer lesser than micro needling but depends on your pain threshold. After a good long discussion and a few more questions from me as well as a bit of general chit chat it was time to make a decision would I or would I not!?

It was time to bite the bullet, I felt fully informed and in good hands so I filled in the paperwork and jumped on the bed. A few little nips from a needle and within five minutes it was done! There was no dramatic difference straightaway but Deborah told me you would start seeing the difference over the next two weeks and she was right, see my before and after pics below.

Ok friends and family didn’t notice a difference but I saw a drastic change and that’s exactly what I wanted, something for me but which looked natural to everyone else. I’m going back shortly for a check up but I think it was a resounding success. Minimal pain, no side effects but a soother forehead exactly what I wanted. Now the question is would you give it a go?
