Fancy a treat this weekend? How about leaving the Sunday roast to someone else and visiting the River Room at Galgorm Resort and Spa. I returned to the beautiful River Room to enjoy a summer tasting menu a few weeks ago and it was as sumptuous as I remembered.
The night began was canapès and a Boatyard Double Gin with London Essence Grapefruit and Rosemary Tonic. It was very refreshing after our short journey from Belfast. Did you know the has one of Ireland’s largest gin collections (over 400 and counting)! Then it was on to the exciting menu from Chris Rees and wine pairings by Robert Neill. If you have read my earlier blog (https://emerdblog.com/2019/04/10/restaurant-review-the-river-room-galgorm-resort-and-spa/) on my first experience dining in the River Room you will know I’m a fan of this head chefs appreciation of local flavours and ingredients but this time round I think Chris let his artistic and theatrical flair come to the forefront; just look at this vibrant green masterpiece below!
This beautiful dish was a treat for all the senses! Pea, ham, goats cheese and Tarragon never looked or tasted so good. With my taste buds awakened and ready for more the fish course came next, Halibut, courgette, miso and chicken skin again a beautifully presented dish but the crust on the fish was AMAZING!! I need the recipe!
As dusk fell around us in the beautiful setting beside the rushing river, the main was served. Beef which was perfectly cooked tender and juicey just how I like it (pink in the middle!) However this was not to some of my dining companions taste but the fantastic serving staff at the River Room where at hand to make sure everyone had the perfect experience.
The desert again was a masterpiece with shades of blush pink, the simple ingredients combined to make a perfect finish for a decadent dining experience.
My advice if you have a special occasion or are just in need of a treat book the River Room you won’t regret it!
